Long day of fighting with myself, thinking of what kind of body of work I could make that holds some profound argument and deeper meaning, that would also hold my interest all year. Wrote up all the stuff I was supposed to, and it was weak and made no sense. Suddenly I remembered how miffed I got during a theory class last year about the push for “contemporary art must be conceptual”, and pure aesthetics and technical skill mean nothing. I even wrote a big paper against the over-saturation of “intellectual” art and all of the problems it creates.
Fight da powah, I found my thesis starting point.
Many people are not going to like it, but that’s the point.
But I’m one of the few who finds most contemporary art to be dull and overdone.
Besides, I love old-fashioned chiaroscuro and painterly compositions. XD
